LEATHER CARE

LESS IS MORE!

SOMETIMES IT'S SO EASY

Thanks to the gentle vegetable tanning process, our leather has retained its natural properties. Due to this incomparable quality, vegetable-tanned leather generally requires much less care than conventional, chrome-tanned leather.

YOUR OWN SKIN AS A REFERENCE

When it comes to caring for vegetable-tanned leather, less is more.

Simply compare it to your own skin: if it feels dry and rough, you usually add moisture. You can do the same with leather.

With vegetable-tanned leather, it can actually take years for this to be the case.

Often, we observe leather that has been literally "over-cared for": especially with shoes, care products are enthusiastically applied. Eventually, the excess waxes and oils build up layer by layer on the leather. If you then scratch the shoe with your fingernail and get product under your nail, it's already far too much, or perhaps the wrong care product. The right care product in the right, ideally small, amount will be fully absorbed and leave no film.

Our leather is vegetable-tanned using an elaborate process and then hand-greased. Chemical treatments such as the application of varnishes, plastics, or dyes have been consistently avoided. Natural marks in the leather such as scars, horn marks, or scratches are therefore not flaws, but rather a guarantee of consistently natural leather.

Thanks to the gentle treatment and greasing of the leather, it is already highly impregnated and protected against moisture.

Please do not use commercially available impregnations, which can harm the leather. These often contain silicones, which can glue the open-pored surface of the leather, thus detrimental to the leather's breathability.

In case of heavy wetness, simply wipe it with a soft cloth and then let the leather dry at room temperature. Please never dry the leather on or in the immediate vicinity of a heater.

Coarse dirt can be brushed off and/or wiped with a damp cloth. Superficial scratches or dirt marks can be polished out with a soft cloth. With time and use, our leather develops an individual and beautiful patina. Environmental influences such as sun, rain, and humidity cause the leather to darken slightly. The patina is a natural, developed protection.

MOULD & DAMP STAINS

Especially with light-colored leathers, moisture or rain can cause so-called "sprouting". Over time and with use, these develop into a patina. If you don't want to wait for that, take a damp, soft cloth and polish the dark area evenly over the entire leather with light pressure. The moisture will initially darken the leather, but it will lighten again as it dries.

CARING FOR SHOES AND BOOTS

Please note our care instructions in the respective product description for the shoes and boots.

In general, we recommend – used sparingly – Pure Polish leather care cream. Apply it sparingly to the leather with a soft cotton cloth; the original shine will be restored with a soft horsehair brush or a soft cotton cloth. You can simply remove dirt beforehand with a damp cloth.

THE CARE OF BAGS & SMALL LEATHER GOODS MADE OF VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER

Bags & accessories made from smooth leather

Our recommendation: Do not use any care products or waterproofing agents and let the leather age beautifully and develop a patina. This will keep your bag looking its best. Only after a long time and use, when you stroke the leather and feel that it is rough or dry, should you add a little care product – as sparingly as you would apply a skin cream.

BAGS MADE OF ANTIQUE- AND SUEDE ECO-LEATHER

Please do not use any care cream or waterproofing spray on this particular leather!

You can carefully "erase" dirt spots with a suede rubber brush. Alternatively, you can try to remove the dirt carefully with a suede eraser.

LIGHT LEATHER COLOURS AND JEANS

Unfortunately, jeans are not colorfast and will lose blue dye, even after many washes. You may already be familiar with this problem from blue-stained sofas or leather car seats.

When wearing blue jeans, please be careful not to carry light-colored leather bags at hip level, i.e., so that the bag rubs against the jeans. Otherwise, the leather may pick up blue dye, which is difficult or impossible to remove.
